Newborn list for first-time parents

While laying awake after being woken up by our lovely newborn daughter, I was wishing for a checklist with easy links to purchase baby products to share with other parents-to-be. Couldn’t find a new and useful one so I created this. We hope this list serves useful to new parents like us!

Two general recommendations:

  1. Most of these were purchased on Amazon but we felt like some items needed to be tried and tested in the store. So we went to stores like Babies”R”Us, selected the product and if the price was cheaper on Amazon, requested them to price-match and walked away with a good price and peace of mind.
  2. CamelCamelCamel is a great site to track prices on Amazon when you are not in a hurry to purchase the product. Copy paste the Amazon product url into CamelCamelCamel and create a price trigger based on the product’s price history. If it’s a new product, they might not have a history but you can still create an alert.

  7. Crib mesh — Breathable Baby mesh protects baby from suffocation and bumping into the crib rails
  8. Crib rail cover — American Baby crib cover protects from splinters
  9. Crib skirt — American baby crib skirt
  10. Crib organizer — hiccapop Playard Nursery Organizer
  11. Swing — we have Graco Simple Sway Baby Swing but should’ve got Graco Glider LX Gliding Swing
  12. Play gym — Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym
  13. Pack n play — Graco Pack ‘n Play with Reversible Napper and Changer Playard — good for travel
  14. Co-sleeper — SwaddleMe

Stroller and car seat

  1. Strollers — so many options, we got Britax 2017 B Agile & B Safe 35 Elite Travel System based on weight, safety and ease of use, its good but we are considering switching to UPPABaby
  2. Car Seat Cover — Leaf baby car seat cover
  3. Car Seat Protector and organizer — BabySeater — very useful!
  4. Car shade — Maximum UV and easy to install
  5. Car back seat mirror — Britax back seat mirror — easy to install
  6. Infant car seat cushion — Car seat snuzzler helps newborn sit comfortably in car seat
  7. Diaper backpack — Smart Travel Organizer with Large Capacity & Stroller Straps
  8. Stroller organizer — Large storage for cups, phones and diapers

Breastfeeding

  1. Breast Pump — get a double pump — Medela or Spectra
  2. Breastfeeding bra — Handsfree breast pump bra
  3. Breastfeeding supplement — UpSpring Milkflow
  4. Nursing bra pads — Medela pads
  5. Milk storage bags — Kiinde Breast Milk Storage Twist Pouch (6 oz — Pack of 80) — so much easier to use and throw than cleaning bottles after pump. Get these to feed baby directly from pouch — Kiinde Twist Active Latch Nipple — 2 pack, Slow Flow, Kiinde Twist Adapters
  6. Rocking chair — rocking and swivel action is more important than reclining IMO

Bottle Feeding

  1. Bottles — Medela is easier to clean but Dr Browns’s flow was easier on our baby’s stomach, especially with premie nipples for the first month
  2. Bottle sterilizer — Philips AVENT Microwave Steam Sterilizer — cheaper and reliable than other sterilizers
  3. Bottle cleaner — Dr. Brown’s Bottle Brush
  4. Bottle drying rack — Philips AVENT Drying Rack — compact and easy to clean
  5. Formula — we went through different types because we were worried our baby had colic but are back to using Enfamil PREMIUM Newborn Infant Formula

Diapers & Wipes

  1. Diapers — Pampers baby Dry — make sure they have wetness indicator, very useful for first time parents!
  2. Diaper trash/pail — Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail — definitely get this because you can use the regular trash bags and don’t have to spend more money on diaper genie refills, read
  3. Diaper and wipes caddy — JJ cole — we have this in the play/living area for easy reach
  4. Diaper rash cream — Desitin for the beginning of a rash or a small one
  5. Butt paste — Boudreaux’s Butt Paste Diaper Rash Ointment
  6. HUGGIES Natural Care Baby Wipes
  7. Wipes Tub — Huggies Natural Care Unscented Baby Wipes Tub — get this so you can refill the tub with the bulk orders of the wipes. We keep one near the play area.
  8. Wipes dispenser — OXO Tot PerfectPull Wipes Dispenser with Weighted Plate. We keep this one in the crib organizer.
  9. Wipes on the go — OXO Tot On-The-Go Wipes Dispenser — refill with wipes for diaper bag
  10. Wipe packs — Baby Wipes, Huggies Wipes — useful as backups for your diaper bag incase you forget to refill the on-the-go dispenser above

Clothes

  1. Gerber unisex inners
  2. Gerber unisex burp cloths
  3. Baby detergent — Natural Baby Laundry Detergent
  4. Mittens — Goumikids Goumimitts Soft Stay On Scratch Mittens
  5. Blankets and swaddles — aden + anais
  6. Bibs — Bumkins — get the disposable ones too

Skin care

  1. Angel baby oil
  2. Angel baby lotion
  3. Angel body wash and shampoo
  4. Organic coconut baby oil for hair and skin care

Travel

  1. Travel stroller — Summer Infant 3Dlite Convenience Stroller

  1. Baby carrier — Ergobaby 360 for 12–33 lbs — when baby is about 3 months
  2. Boba Baby Wrap

  4. Infant Bather — we have Summer Infant Deluxe Baby Bather but I also like this
  5. Pacifiers — Philips BPA free pacifier — the hospital gave us enough so we didn’t buy one but bought these fun ones though :) We were also told the clip pacifiers are very useful.
  6. Exersaucer and Jumperoo — you might need them soon
  7. Bumbo to assist with sitting
